The heating system in the car

All cars have a heating system in order to provide the interior with warm air in the winter, and this system works by blowing the air entering the car cabin through the air vents that are used in the air conditioning system as well.

The heating system works by taking the hot water that comes out of the engine and introduces it to its own heater core, usually located inside the dashboard, and the hot water or coolant passes inside this heater core and then one or more fans blow it to the interior of the car's cabin.

The heating system depends on the temperature of the coolant inside the hoses of the cooling system, the higher the temperature of the liquid, the better the heating efficiency and the higher the temperature of the liquid air, so when you start the car engine in the cold morning hours, the heating system will not work directly until the coolant warms up.

When the thermostat is closed, the coolant stays hot inside the engine, which increases the heating efficiency, so if it's not working in your car, the heating will be weak or even non-existent if the temperature outside is very cold.

With the onset of winter, the car you want to buy must be equipped with a trouble-free heating system that works to heat the air to the highest degree, and that is why Motorgy provides you with used cars for sale in Kuwait, all its basic systems are checked to enter winter with warmth and comfort.

What are the issues with the car's heating system?

Here are some of the most important issues that affect the heating system in cars:

Low coolant level

The heating system in your car works by blowing hot air inside the cabin and derives its heat from the coolant inside the engine, and if the coolant or antifreeze level in your car is low due to a malfunction, the heater core will not get enough hot liquid to warm the cabin, and this means that the air that will enter it will be cold or not hot enough to warm the cabin, especially when the temperatures are very low, and the low coolant level will raise the temperature of the engine and possibly damage it if you do not pay attention to it.

Bad thermostat

The thermostat works to allow the coolant to flow through the engine, and when your car's engine is cold, it remains closed until it warms up and reaches the appropriate operating temperature, and once the engine warms up, the thermostat opens and allows the coolant to exit to be cooled, and when the thermostat is damaged, especially if it remains open, the coolant will remain cold and the heating system will not get enough heat to heat the cabin, and if it remains closed, the engine will overheat and possibly stop working.

Heating fan is not working

The function of the heating fan is to blow the air that is heated by the high temperature of the coolant in the heater core into the cabin, so it is an important part of this system, and if the fan breaks down and stops working or works slowly, the process of pumping air into the cabin will be zero or slow, no matter how high the coolant temperature is, and you can know if the fan is broken or not, if you do not hear its sound when the heating or cooling system is turned on.

Contaminated coolant

When using non-distilled water in the cooling system, or when using old or poor quality coolant or antifreeze, this will lead to subsequent issues such as rust and oxidation, and the coolant becomes full of dirt, dust and rust, and this dirt will prevent the completion of the heating process or even cooling the engine, and the interior cabin will get cold air because the heater core or the pipes clogged with dirt and will not get hot water at all.

Damaged heater core

The heater core works to transport hot air through the air vents in your car through fans, and the heater core is a sensitive part of the car, although it is hidden, it is exposed to high heat and great pressure, and most seasons of the year are without work because it does not work unless the heating system is on, and this will contribute to either damage, cracked edges and corrosion, or clogging due to dirt and dust, and the process of changing it needs a lot of time and effort, so it is the last thing you wish to damage the heating system or the car systems in general.
