Transmission oil or Transmission fluid is important and essential in any transmission, whether manual or automatic; it ensures the smooth movement of parts and reduces friction between them, and also works to draw heat from internal components so that they do not overheat.

Transmission oil, like engine oil, needs constant inspection, especially if the car is old, and it needs to be changed when needed or on the dates specified by the car manufacturer, so you should read the owner's manual for your car and know the dates of changing it in addition to the specifications of the correct caliber and quality suitable for your car.

Since transmission oil is very important, checking it should be one of your top priorities when buying a used car, but if you want peace of mind, you should buy your future car from Motorgy because it provides you with fully inspected used cars for sale in Kuwait at the best prices.

What are the signs that the transmission oil needs to be changed?

In terms of signs that indicate that you should change the gear oil as soon as possible:

Low oil level

The low level of oil in the transmission is one of the most important signs that it is time to change it completely, this oil should not decrease until after a long period of time, and if you notice that its level is low, it means that there is either a leak, or that it has evaporated due to heat, humidity and several other factors, and in this case you must examine the transmission and look for the cause of the leak, and if there is no leak, the oil must be completely drained and replaced with a new one suitable for your car.

Overheating of the transmission

One of the main and common signs of low oil level is overheating, if there is not enough oil inside it to cool the moving parts at high speed, it will overheat and you will notice a burning smell or see smoke rising either from underneath the car or from under the hood.

Sudden gear changes

If you notice that shifting gears in your car has become sudden and unexpected between shifts, this is a sign of a low oil level, and it may also be an issue with the gears themselves through which you may have to perform expensive maintenance on the transmission or change it completely, so if you notice sudden up and down shifting, high engine revolutions before shifting or irregular shifting, check the oil level directly and change it if it is low.

Delayed shifting

The transmission is responsible for shifting gears either automatically or when you select the appropriate gear, so if there is a noticeable pause of about two to three seconds when shifting from drive to reverse, there is likely not enough hydraulic pressure to shift gears, which means it's time for an oil change and quickly too so as not to cause damage to the transmission.

Unable to shift

When there is a significant lack of transmission oil, it has not been able to shift gears at all, so check it well and check the oil level, and if you confirm that the reason is too low, you should change it completely, and do not refill it until the transmission gets new, clean oil with high viscosity and within the correct level.

Unusual noises

Since transmission oil lubricates the internal parts, it keeps vital components from rubbing against each other and causing damage or affecting the performance of your car, so if you hear a rattling, clicking, or grinding sound coming from the transmission, the main parts may be rubbing against each other, and you should change the oil as soon as possible to prevent any subsequent issues.

Unpleasant odor

Transmission oil has a very distinctive sweet smell, and if you notice that the oil in your car has an unusual odor when you check it through the measuring tool or if there is a burning smell from the engine, it means that its level is low, which led to the imbalance of its viscosity and components and becomes unusable and here you must change it immediately.

Oil leaking on the floor

It is important to take a thorough look under your car every now and then to make sure that the floor is free of any oils or liquids that have leaked from the car to it, and if you notice that the transmission oil is leaking on the floor, this is a very important sign that you should inspect it, check the oil level in it, fix the issue that caused it to leak, then refill it with new oil suitable for it.
